Installing agents to manage your computers and virtual machines

There are two types of agents that need to be installed on computers you want to include in your backup and restore operations: the first is a Management Agent which will allow you to control the computer remotely, and the second is a Backup Agent which will allow you to run and manage backup operations remotely. Backup agents are installed through management agents.
.

Installing Management Agents

Go to Managed Computers on the main menu.

Select Download Agent and select the operating system of the computer you want the installer for.

You can specify an expiry date for the download link. This is set by default to 12 months.

You can either download the file by clicking on Download or create a download link to use on other machines. You can use the same download link for multiple installations.

Execute the installation file from the target computer. You need to have Administrator rights on the machine to be able to install.

Follow the installation instructions.

On successful installation you’ll be able to see this icon in your task bar.

Double click on the icon to access the settings window. Make sure the Agent Status shows as Connected. It may take a short while to connect to the server.

.

Installing Backup Agents

Back at the Penta BaaS dashboard, go to Managed Computers and you should be able to see the computers you’ve just installed the Management Agents on. Select the computer and then from select Install Backup Agent.

On the next window for guest OS credentials leave the options as default.

Choose the backup policy you want to use for that computer. You can use any of the default backup policies setup by Penta as a start, or you can select No Policy to set up your backup policy later.

Leave the Read-Only option on. For advanced settings you can click on Configure

The backup agent will then be installed automatically. Once done you can check the status of installation of backup agents through either the Discovery Computers tab or the Backup Agents tab.
